I agree 100% with Karl.

pain is all in your mind.   If you will it away, concentrate on what you want to do, the pain becomes background noise.   Not in one minute, not  in one day if it is serious pain, but over time your mind learns to ignore persistent acute pain.

I do a lot of periop management for spine and joint patients. The mind
inhibits pain perception actively. This is visible on fMRI. So expectations
and emotional state have a big effect on pain levels. It is a complex
interplay. I always say that there are a lot of unproven therapies, but as
long as side effects are minimal, cost is reasonable and it seems to help,
I will take a placebo benefit every day of the week and twice on sunday.
