It is no longer the purveyor of cheep chinee chit.
Harbor Freight used to be Harbor Freight Salvage and was a mail
order outfit from somewhere in CA. Their catalog was 1 color on
newsprint like paper - low cost. I think it was about 1983 or so
that I first bought from them, but I'm pretty sure I had been
getting their catalogs for a while.

A lot of goods from China are becoming much better than they once were. It used to be cheap because it was junk and that was all it was worth. We have Princess Auto in Canada and much of the stock that they have comes from China and is similar to HF. Their prices are going up as well given the Cdn $ is low and the trade has usually been in US $, but the product is much better. I know someone who works for PA and he says that if I see something new come on the floor, I should resist for a time because they go back to the maker and insist upon changes to avoid any issues that arise so that they don't have to take a whole lot of it back after sale. The Chinese are apparently quite good at responding to problems and making the next generation of product much better.
