Good for you Gerry. I am not so old as you but I am having a harder
time motivating myself to do things than I used to.
It sounds to me like you need a garage with a hoist so that you can walk
around under the car and not have to get up and down to crawl under it.
Either that, or you need a pretty young assistant who can fetch wrenches
etc.

Well, if a broken hip, and laying on the shop floor for three days
didn't lead you to your demise, I'd say the statisticians would call
you an "outlier".
I seem to have missed something!
Gerry, when did that happen? What happened?
G: I fell behind the shop and broke a hip; crawled around and into the front of
the shop, and then passed out or something a few feet from the phone. SIL and
daughter found me 24 hours later. That was five to seven years ago. A couple of
years ago I fell in a restaurant rest room and cracked the pelvis. Had very
good rehab, and now the pelvis is good as new.
Since getting up and down and working under the Mercedes is getting pretty
difficult, I may have to get somebody to replace the rubber bits and center
driveline bearing on the '83 240D, but still hope to do it myself eventually.
How old are you now?
G: 90
