Uh-oh. If emotion has entered the negotiations, walk away. You’ll never get it for your price. This is a battle you will always lose.
I’m working with a guy that was on PeachParts who is trying to sell his father in law’s 1984 380SL. FIL no longer drives and they need some $$ towards his care. FIL is convinced his 35+ year old car, the red headed stepchild of the model line, with over 160k on the clock and numerous minor issues, is worth BIG BUCKS. Why? Because a few years back he saw a Mecum or other high line auction with a car “just like his” that went for big bucks. FIL wants to list the car for $9k. Son in law says $6k, knowing it’s a $3k-$4k car on a very good day. FIL has agreed to list at $6k after protracted begging from son in law. I told the son in law to get FIL to agree to lower the price $1000/month for every month it’s listed somewhere. That and keep track of every offer, no matter how lousy it is, so he can compile a list of offers and show FIL what the market says it’s worth. This will be a long, drawn out, painful process, and we all know where it will end. This is what happens when emotion comes into a transaction. -D > On Apr 28, 2020, at 6:47 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > <mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > > I do not think I spelled it out quite as nicely as you, I did explain I see > them advertised anywhere from $1k on up to $7-8k but not sure if they are > selling for that.
