Growing up in central Indiana I don’t see where it’s any hotter (or humid) then
as it is now. in the months of July, August and even into September 90s with
maximum humidity was the norm, and I can recall it well. I was usually baling
hay in August or working in greenhouses the rest of the time as a teenager,
hydrating heavily and staying covered if out in the sun for extended periods.
Baling hay you had to wear dungarees and long sleeved shirts or you would be
itching for days afterwards. Stacking in the barn loft was the worst because it
was hotter than Hades in there and there wasn’t a lot of air moving around.

I don’t ever recall “dangerous heat advisories” when I was a kid. We were lucky
to get the parents to turn on the AC. They were convinced you could crack the
windows and use the attic fan to keep it cool all day long (wrong!)
