We had a groomed cross country ski course at a state park just a few miles away
form our home in WI. On Friday nights they had “candlelight skiing”, which had
a bonfire at the parking area for the non-participants and luminaries (? -
paper bags with the votive candles) placed along the trails every 20-30 feet or
so by the park rangers.

My standard getup was jogging pants, a t-shirt, all covered with an Army field
coat that went down to my knees. It was also referred to as my “Captain
Kangaroo” coat because it had large, square pockets on the front that were
ideal for holding bottles of cold, locally produced adult beverages, usually
from Sprecker. As I would push along the bottles would jingle in my pockets,
scaring off the local wildlife but alerting fellow skiiers that I possessed
libations. Every quarter mile or so there would be a park bench, which we would
sit on to take a short rest and consume said libations.

This is one of the examples of the excellent quality of life that exists in WI.
