Have to fly out to Albuquerque next month for a week. In the past for
these sorts of trips we booked our own travel thru the companies travel
site. Since covid and a recent acquisition of another company, they
have now decided to use a travel team to book our travel for these
trips. The company they acquired had couple of office workers (aka
travel team) booking travel for that company. They now use them to book
ours. They claim the reason was to save us time. It takes all of 5-10
minutes to book. Most of us are very particular about our travel
arrangements and if we are having to spend a week away from home at a
time, we should at least get some mileage and status out of it. These
office workers booking this apparently have no idea what it is like
being on the road and simply book whatever is the cheapest flight. My
preferred airline is American on which I am platinum status, which means
I get free checked backs, most of the time upgrades to 1st class etc.
On this trip they just booked for me, they put me on Southwest,
probably because it came in about $20 cheaper. WTF? I also have TSA
precheck which is tied into my AA account. So flying on SW I have none
of these benefits. One of my co workers will also be going out there
and they have him on AA leaving Jackson MS at 6am and arriving at 10am.
Hotel check in is not until 3, so what is he supposed to do all day?
Sit at the airport? I am sure some people like Southwest and maybe they
are great, but not for me.
Anyway, the point of this rant is to say I will be in ABQ for a week and
maybe I should look for something to drive home and blow off the crappy
southwest cattle car flight back home.
