I think one reshingle is still allowed in most places by code, so the structure 
should take the weight. That's for standard 3-tab shingles, probably not the 
heavier architectural ones though.

My dad reshingled our roof by himself one time. For the cost of the shingles 
and his time, he got another 20+ years out of the roof. At the time their house 
was built, they used plywood for the roof deck not OSB so it was still solid. 
Was a 4/12 pitch roof also so not too treacherous to walk around on.

If you have a cheap 3-tab shingle roof it's an affordable way to defer the cost 
of a full tear-off and re-roof.
