My thoughts exactly, Curt. If there is no real difference apart from length, it ought to be reasonably easy to add some metal. Did Dwight ever say what was wrong with the original? Maybe it could be repaired?

14mm is about half an inch although I don't suppose the precise length
matters all that much. Somebody that was good with a welder should be able to
cut a sedan version and add half an inch of strap steel. A TIG welder would be
best for fine control and minimal splatter but I could (eventually) probably
make one with my MIG setup.

I am looking for a door stop/check strap for a 123 coupe.  They are
different from sedan and wagon. MB Classic has one for 250.00. (ouch)
Yesterday I found a URO one for much cheaper but I can't find it today.
Parts # is 123 720 03 16. Strap length is 114mm while sedan is 100mm.
Does Anybody have a good used one or know of a source? I have tried all the
major sources.
TIA
