IIRC, Otto, Diesel, and turbine engines are all approximately
equally efficient at rated output. Turbines have disgusting
throttle lag, and poor fuel economy at partial throttle. (Which
makes them a very poor choice for a prime mover in a traditional
vehicle, such as the old Chrysler turbine car.) These factors
would be null for a single-load-point system. (Diesels are the
most efficient at partial throttle, which makes them ideal for
a prime mover in a traditional vehicle.) Turbines that generate
thrust directly are fairly thirsty. But those used in turboprop aircraft
are not. The system I envision uses a high-rev alternator instead
of a geared-down propellor to take power off the turbine.

The high revs of a non-geared turbine makes for good power density.
The lack of a cooling system makes for a smaller system, increasing
the overall power density. The resulting package should be small.
And light. We're only talking about maybe 20HP total here.

But, I'm not a turbine engineer. I could be wrong.
