Lithium chemistry is more sensitive at the extremes of charge. As I understand 
it, the best battery life is achieved by maintaining the battery "in the 
middle" e.g. between 40% and 80% of capacity. This is why when you get a new 
cell phone, it's roughly half-charged.

In fact if you discharge the battery too much, it becomes impossible to 
recharge (the battery management electronics should prevent this). The worst 
thing for maintaining range over time is if you regularly discharge to near the 
minimum and then fully charge to 100%.

So there will be some variation in the range remaining on used EVs of the same 
age and make, depending on how many "full charge cycles" the batteries have 
endured, among other factors.
