Braingears to the rescue. The description of de-oiling a cooling system starts on page 20-016. They say to use an alkaline cleaner.

Subject: [MBZ] 190Dt repeat

Hi, All.
 No, Johnny B.
I waited 'til the rain stopped to wash my car a** backwards as usual.
The Car is not a prime example but it will go in excess of 161KPH.
 Next is new tyres.
General question:- When the head gasket went it leaked a little oil into the cooling system. I have the MB citic acid stuff, but what is best for de-oiling the cooling system?
