Just tossing in my 2 cents here, don't know why GM would say that since there 
are alot of engine mods out there that are perfectly safe for the DM. If it is 
done right you can up the HP and torque without doing any damage to the cats or 
the engine. There's a Bully Dog setup that includes the chip, larger exhaust 
(cat back) and all the gauges to monitor the engine function and exhaust temp. 
You can't just "chip" a DM you have to realize that when you make changes in 
how the engine operates there are other factors to consider.

There is no increase in mileage by chipping the Duramax.  It can make more 
power at a cost of the risk of damage and loss of mileage.
