Reports I've seen show MB quality falling in 1992-1994. '94 was the year of the "coup", when marketing really took over the "driver's seat" at MB - very well documented by insiders in the book, "Enduring Passion". The Chrysler merger was what? '97-ish. I think DB had a problem b4 they bought Chrysler. Also DB bought a BUNCH of companies in the 90's. They make rockets for Pete;s sake! I think the 90's DBAG acquisition craze in general caused them to lose focus regarding the Mercedes Car Group. Chris

Trying to be a smart guy, I reserved a minivan two weeks ago through Enterprise at some super-de-dooper weekend rate. When I went to pick it up today, they had no minivans. No Enterprise joint had a stinkin' minivan. I was tight. They didn't seem to understand why I was so tight. The clown offered to rent me a 15 passenger one ton Chebby van for the same price (I have 7 humans total to haul). The thought of 7mpg @ $3.45 in CA didn't thrill me. With seemingly no other choice, I took the rolling greenhouse. I took it a mile or so away and the AC never got cold, so I took it back. Dude there said he had a Durango comming in and I could have that if I wanted. He said it seats seven. I waited. It will seat seven semicomfortably. Having not driven anything Dodge since my work bud's '90 Ram Charger, I was still under the impression all Dodge/Chrysler interior stuff was still cheap crap. This Durango is pretty nice. Not real cheappy plastic-y crap. I'll see how it runs going over to Cal. And no this doesn't have a Hemi. I reckon, since the merger, Chrysler quality has risen, and MB quality has fallen and it sems they have met somewhere in the middle. Owning a Kia now will be like having owned an early 1970s Honda -- ashamed to drive it but you have a good car. In fact, hard to tell the front of a top-of-the-line Kia from the front of Benz in 2006. Hey, what's the warranty on Kia now, like 100,000 miles?
