Not on any car I've ever owned.

If so, when you're marginally low, and parked at the wrong angle, it
could prevent the car from starting.

Not on any Mercedes made before the mid '90s anyway (I know NOTHING about newer cars). All the oil level lights I've seen do is warn you that the oil is low - NOTHING else.
