Before the good Doctor left us he said the OEM stuff Rusty (and MB) sells is
preferable for the newer MBs.
He said <<ATF is NOT approved for your car (but I doubt that it would do any
harm). You should use either the Mercedes fluid or the Febi/Bilstein
equivalent that Rusty sells>>

The Maintanence manual tells how to check the level but does not say when
to
replace the fluid. I usually look at the color and condition - the MB
OEM
fluid (buy it from Rusty) is pretty clear and the color of fresh,
light-weight oil - kind of a light golden color. If the car is more than
10
years old and there's no indication it'd been changed, I'd go ahead &
change
the fluid & filter. It's pretty inexpensive maintanence - and if it
extends
the life of the steering system it's always a good idea.
