Brian,
I did on my 240D. Got a 19.95 telescoping manual antenna from my local
radio store. Removed the cheap Chinese replacement for the Hirschman
that was there-bolted it to the fender and plugged the antenna plug into
where we unplugged the old antenna's plug in the trunk/ actually
fellow lister John Peterson did this. Then put the fiber board back on
the inner fender. . Cheap fix and unless you have a thing for electric
antenna or want a $179.00 Hirschman, excellent fix. You can lower it
manually for car wash or bad neighborhoods.

Subject: [MBZ] Keeping it simple with antenna

Has anyone decided to replace their electric antenna with a fixed one?

I would have no problem giving up the countless benefits of the
retractable antenna.

Currently antenna is broken off, and I don't know if the electric motor
works or not. I'd rather not deal with it, as I don't see the benefit.
Heck, I could save that vehicle weight.

Any success stories?
