I seem to remember that on these engines one camshaft wears more quickly
than the other. Don't a$k me how I know.

But that was on an M117.986.
The 560SEL should have an M117.968!

Subject: [MBZ] 560sel quick tips?

Seeing as it does appear that my SD's motor has expired, and seeing as I
need a vehicle on a daily basis, I may end up buying another car quick.

I have a line on an 89? 560sel, cosmetically wonderful (of course) but
unfortunately it has been sitting for about two years and started only
infrequently during that time. The guy selling it (agent for the PO, a
wealthy local resort owner) admits the valve seals are bad and it smokes
when cold. Beyond that it's the usual Sgt. Shultz routine.

In all my years on the lists I've been a diesel guy so I pretty much ignored
V8 talk. I DO know to check if the chains have been done, and the state of
the exhaust and cats, and other obvious stuff for a parked car like the
waterpump, belts, alternator, stuff that may have accelerated decrepitude
from sitting.

Another other points?

It's a kicking good deal BUT we all know the way that goes....
