Yeap I prefer to use Propane over carb cleaner, some gaskets in my
experience can fool you with the liquid from the carb cleaner. However I
more often have a can carb cleaner handy and use it. If there is some
questionable areas I will use propane...

A trick you can use with carb cleaner - Spreay around the intake,
injectors & fittings. Any idle change indictes a leak.

Yeap, I replace all the seals and hoses that were hard. I also checked
for
leaks using propane/carb cleaner and no leaks were found.

I assume that you replaced the seals around the holders as well as the
seals around the injectors when you replaced them - then there's the
long molded rubber air hose in the middle of the manifold assembly -
mine was hard as a rock, and hadn't made a seal for years. Only way to
get at it is to dis-assemble the manifold. There are LOTS of hoses
that can leak. Every bolt on one side of my intake manifold to head
joint was loose - as in I removed them with my fingers. There are also
the 8 tubes between the manifold and the plenum beneath it that can
leak.
The symptoms were started with a rough idle, moved to hard to start,
and ended with refusing to start. After I took it apart, I was amazed
that it ever ran --- the PO was an independent "Mercedes Shop" in Ft.
Worth - I think they pieced this car together from many donors, too
late at night, after too many beers.
