I mut have gotten lucky last year when I needed to replace the AT in my 78
240D - found a used one with low miles that was $300 delivered to a local
shop - plus $550 to remove/install it. I thought it was a pretty good deal.
Granted, if you wanted yours rebuilt it would probably be in the $1200-$1500
range.
So, if that 300D is especially nice, you might be able to have a used AT
installed then sell it. But of course, it takes some effort on your part
and you may not want to mess with it.
