There was a 1996 Porsche 911 Cabriolet for sale recently - asking $20k when
it was easily worth $30k-$45k depending on several things - the odd thing
was the seller said the car was in Italy but would be shipped as part of the
deal once the deposit of $1000 was made. He said he'd airfreight to a port
close to me and at that point I could complete the deal or decline.
He had a explanation of taking a transfer to Italy and shipping his 911 then
discovering a high tax/registration fee which suppossedly forced him to
sell. Hard to believe he wouldn't get a feel for these things before
shipping it.
However, he obviously had no plans to even go through with the sale - it
became obvious that he was trying to get deposits and then disappear. When
I said I had a friend who could come to Italy to look at the car and
finalize the deal for me the seller stopped responding to my emails. ;-)
