I know a properly maintained 617 cooling system can handle a load and the
desert heat with the A/C on. I recently made the trip through Death Valley and
came out of the valley around 1pm in 3rd gear running about 3500-4000 RPM, with
full A/C, and about 600lbs of bowling equipment. The temp never went above
110C, and mostly stayed around 105C.
