Old age will do that to plastic parts, from memory the radiator cap is supposed to open at 120 celcius but an old brittle radiator may not handle that sort of pressure anymore. Far as Behr vs Nissens, if you have the money spare go for Behr but the Nissens should last half as long as the Behr for half the money. I just replaced the radiator in my 201 due to the neck snapping off the 22 year old Behr, installed a Nissens due to the cost factor (about 50% of the Behr price) and the only real fault is the lack of a drain plug but this can be overcome by removing the bottom radiator hose. Nissens is a big Danish outfit that makes a lot of replacemnet radiators http://www.nissens.dk/uk/index.htm However a quick search indicates that due to your more competitive market there is not that large price difference between Behr and Nissens http://catalog.drivewire.com/drivewire/baseline/wizard-newest.jsp?partner=drivewire&year=1985&make=MB&model=300-SD-002&category=All&part=Radiator or at this mob http://catalog.worldpac.com/buymb/022406/wizard.jsp?header=http://www.buymbparts.com/header.txt&footer=http://www.buymbparts.com/footer.txt&partner=buymb&clientid=buymbparts&baseurl=http://www.buymbparts.com/&cookieid=24J17TL8F24J17TQTT&year=1985&make=MB&model=300-SD-002&category=All&part=Radiator So I guess for the extra 34 bucks do yourself a favour and go for the Behr
