Open the oil fill cap when running. If smoke pours out then your blow by probably has finally exceeded what the system can handle & crankcase pressure os pushing the oil out somewhere.
This test does not work on some BMW's or Volvos as they ran positive crankcase pressure. Now, at 176K miles, it seem to be going through one quart each 600 miles or so. It had been one per 1200 miles for the longest time. Nothing is dripping on the drive. The exhaust looks right but smells a little off (you know what I mean). At last valve adjustment (10K ago or so) there was no chain stretch to speak of. She's running well overall.
