Unfortunately, I'm from a state (NY) where you can be convicted of
manslaughter for shooting someone in your own house. In NY State, if you
kill someone in your home and you had a path of escape (back door, etc.) or
if you kill an invader with a handgun & he only had a knife then you will be
prosecuted & will likely be found guilty.

Fortunately, I now live in a state (Alabama) that believes you have the
right to PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY and if need be, can shoot an
invader. And if he happens to die from a gaping 45 ACP wound, it's
considered a result of his own actions and HIS FAULT. And if he was only
carrying a knife when he broke in? Then he's incredibly stupid, but still
dead. The police report usually states "no charges filed" & everything is
dropped.

Thanks,
Tom Hargrave

One should also make sure the perp falls into the house. Even if you
have to help him in once he is limp. Makes for a better defense.
