The argument I've heard is that Harleys hold their resale value better.
For me who never plans on buying a bike new thats the reason I'll never have a
Harley...

Oh and I like sport bikes, with real engines, that eat Harleys for lunch.... 4
cyl OHC!

Nice bike. Being that the wife worked for H-D for the
eight years we lived in Wisconsin we have a great
affinity for them. That being said, we were spoiled,
since she was an exec and got "loaner" bikes on a
regular basis. Until the IRS came in around 1994 and
told the accounting people they would have to find a
way to tax it, since it was considered a "benefit."
After that we only got bikes loaned for rides to
rallies. Darn.

I highly doubt I will ever own a Harley after buying
and riding my Virago. It's as (or more) powerful than
most H-Ds on the road, much quieter, and far more
reliable. The H-D dealership is right across the
street from the Yamaha dealer here in Tampa, and I
frequent both places. I buy my riding gear at H-D,
and my parts at the Yamaha dealer.

Since I wander the showrooms of both places on a
regular basis, I find it really difficult to justify
buying a comparable H-D these days when it's (in some
cases) nearly twice the cost of an equally equipped
and dressed Yamaha.

When the time comes (if it does) that I can afford a
new bike, it will most likely be a V-Star or something
comparable. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford a new
Harley.

I do get the occasional double-take because all my
riding gear is H-D. That's mainly because the 6-8
jackets, leathers, gloves, etc., that I have we bought
as an employee, and of course, it's still good as new.

I saw a Virago sidecar a few weeks ago. Didn't look
like anything I would want on my bike - I think it was
a one-off sort of thing.
