I agree, it has always puzzled me why there's so many big bloody trucks about when it's much more efficient to ship via rail!
Someone on this list responded a couple of years ago when I ranted about this, that the problem was the railways following the current business ideal....corner the market and sodomise the client. Because of this the trucking industry filled the gap and we have the silly mess we have now.
