Finally found one, they call it "o ring" which it isn't "cam shaft seal" which 
it also isn't...

The cross section I think was probably rectangular at some point, I'm 99.9% 
certain it wasn't an o ring, the hole it fits is NOT round.
Anyway the new one should be here next week while I'm on vacation. It'll be a 
nice present to return to.

I think you are pointing to the black not quite round thing.  I'd 
guess it used to be an oring. is the cross section more or less 
square?  if so, pop it out and go get some orings about the right 
size and see what fits.  It IS a metric oring, so mb or auto a/c 
orings might be a good place to start.

The first time I changed the oil filter on an MB diesel the oil 
filter canister seal was square cross section, so I thought it was a 
special square gasket.  What i didn't know then was that the oring 
does not spring back to round after time and heat.  I have seen some 
former orings that you could never guess that it had been an 
oring.  that was a long time ago, when I was 18
