Freon manifold - I'm talking about the two big rubber and steel pipes/tubes attached to the backside of a raised attachment on top of the compressor - one goes forward to the condenser; the other goes rearward and connects to another pipe/tube that connects to the evaporator between the firewalls. Compressor end of the pipes/manifold in question on my 87 300D sure looks like it's attached to that raised attachment on top of the compressor by one bolt (13 mm, I think, but not certain right now) on a common flange between the ends of the two pipes that make up the manifold. The bolt I'm talking about is easily reached from behind the compressor with a socket on a short extension on a ratchet. 'You sure you need to REMOVE the compressor just to change the two pipes (with common flange at compressor)?
