I don't have those sorts of tools (I'm a college student living on campus,
as you may have guessed from my prior posts), but I did remove the plate
from an empty slot in the back of the case, and it seems to make a big
difference now (the air coming out of the PSU fan is warm to the touch
now, when before it felt cool if anything, due to the motion over my
hand).  

As for the system's stability, I can't be sure, since I'm in a lab half a
mile from the machine, but it was doing great when I left.
