I recall having the same problem when I exceeded the number of allowable
elements in a file. Nothing happened until I exited SmartCam, then tried to
reload the file. No go!

However, I was able to edit the Smartcam.ini file to increase the number of
allowable elements, and then I could reopen the file.

Since Paul's buddy was merging files at the time of the problem, this could be
the reason. It's worth a try.

I normally set the number of elements at 200000.
