20, DHNS:*
*Principal District and Sessions Judge H P Sandesh on Wednesday called for
care and compassion for the patients with psychic problems and mental
disabilities for their early recovery and bringing them to the mainstream of
the society.

Speaking after inaugurating World Mental Health Day organised at the MMC&RI
platinum jubilee hall here, he said doctors and para medical (nurses) staff
play a crucial role for the treatment of the people with mental
disabilities.

“The nurses in hospitals have a bigger job and greater responsibility than a
doctor as they spend maximum time with the patients. They opt for the course
and join the profession with a service mind. The spirit should continue till
the end of their service,” he remarked.

The judge said the society should shun carelessness towards psychic patients
and help them join the mainstream of the society.

The patients recover early if society starts recognising them as part of the
community and shower shower and affection.

He opined the education and health were the key for progress of any society
or community. The private sector was eating into the government services
particularly in these two sectors and it was affecting reach of education
and health services for the poor and needy.

It was important that four pillars of the democracy - the executive,
legislature, judiciary and the media worked in tandem to bring about
prosperity in these crucial sectors, he said.

The World Mental Health Day which falls on Oct 10 every year was observed on
Wednesday as the city was immersed in Dasara celebrations in the last few
days.

The programme was organised joinly by zilla panchayat, district health
department, District Legal Services Authority, District Mental Services
Authority and other forums.
