Disclosing this at the 10th anniversary of the Communication DEALL (Developmental Eclectic Approach to Language Learning), Nimhans Director Dr Satish Chandra said there was ample scope for research in the said areas. “Besides, our institute possesses the required equipment,” he said. Throwing light on the impairment, Dr Chandra said detecting the communication troubles early and stopping it is crucial in fighting it. Emphasising the importance of early diagnosis, he said causes for these disorders were often genetic (hereditary) and environmental. “Certain guidelines are available for training people about the disorders,” he added. *Rural scenario* Addressing the gathering, Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde lamented the lack of healthcare facilities in the villages. Pointing out how Victoria and Bowring Hospitals, which once served the people fervently, were fading away from the scene, the Lokayukta lamented that private hospitals were now calling the shots depriving the poor of quality healthcare. Hegde also said Bhagyalakshmi and other government schemes were not reaching those who were entitled to benefit from the schemes. “Our policy makers should see to it that fruits of the schemes they bring about are enjoyed by the poorest of the poor,” he added. *Therapy aids* On the occasion, therapy aids which help children suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Mental Retardation to learn and grasp better were released. The therapy aid consists of five training videos and seven manuals for learning.
