proftpd is probably best in class.

Something to remember though, ftp protocol sends everything clear text.
 This means that users connecting via ftp exposes passwords just like
users connecting via telnet would.  There is an ftps spec, but I'm not
sure how many clients support that for something like automatic file sync.
