The presentation definitely loses something for everyone involved.
That's my view as well. Live is what's interesting. The quality will
always be worse than being in the room, because the event is, and will
remain, optimized for face to face attendance.
I also think Live at the quality that we are projecting doesn't hurt
attendance either. It gives people a bridge for the times they can't be
there in person, for the meetings that end up getting streamed (it won't
be all of them, honestly I'd be surprised if it was more than 1/2), and
introduces new people to the events.
When it comes to slides in advance, I personally hate giving them out in
advance, as I think it completely ruins the flow of a presentation.
People skip ahead, ruining jokes and challenges. So I wouldn't ask for
people to do that, and I definitely, personally, never provide slides in
advance when I present places.
And, like I said before, this is all about Speaker choice. I made
myself the guinea pig on this because I only needed to get me to agree
to things (I tend not to argue with myself that much). The next time I
present I'll probably stream it again, because I like that folks like
Pat who got stuck in the office, got to see the presentation, ask
questions (via Joe who was monitoring the channel), and meet up with us
at Dinner. But that's all personal choice.
I'll make sure to let people know by the time of the meeting announce (1
week prior to event) if the event will be streamed. If more than 6
meetings are streamed this year, I'd be surprised.

There is no silver bullet. Plus, werewolves make better neighbors
than zombies, and they tend to keep the vampire population down.
