I'll take a quick look around later today, my suggestion would be to look for a web API to the device.

A common way of providing a web api for devices is to include a small Flash program[since Flash can access your system's hardware while Javascript cannot] and then provide a Javascript API to the flash app.. so for the web coder it's all Javascript coding.

If the Tom Tom has a web API, you could then utilize that flash program which may well run under linux to access the device and just do all your coding in Javascript/V8.

Ubuntu forums and TomTom site indicate that there is no Linux update
program which seems ridiculous when the Tom Tom itself is a Linux
based appliance. Windows program will not identify device in Wine
(similar reports on internet.) How do I update it. I see GPS
programs in Linux but I don't know what I am doing.
