I do not have an A+ certificate, never spent the money to get one. I did go for this http://www.oreillyschool.com/certificates/system-administration.php and would like to get some Cisco certificates. I like the O'Reilly courses they are pretty good at covering the basics. I think my next move when I have time will be the LPI http://lpi.org/ and when I feel that I really know my stuff I will try to get redhat certifications. The O'Reilly classes require you to log in and configure servers so I feel it prepares you for what you really will be doing and not just learning answers to questions. redhat is similar though much more difficult. From what people who have take the exams tell me is you show up for the exam and are given a broken server and are told to "fix" it according to redhat's standards within a certain amount of time or you fail. Those kind of test I feel are much better than reading a book and learning answers. Oh and the O'Reilly one you can't really fail unless you are just terrible, they basically want to to learn the stuff so it is worth your investment since you will almost certainly pass the course. The redhat exams are very challenging from what I hear and is very difficult to pass.
If anyone wants to get together to study from the LPI I would love to, let me know I should be at the meeting tonight. -- Matthias A. Johnson matthias.a.johnson aut gmail dot com
