After hearing some folks rave about textmate I did a bit of google-ing and
came across this:

http://niranjansarade.blogspot.com/2012/02/making-gedit-look-like-textmate-for.html

I also enabled a terminal at the bottom of the screen:

http://library.gnome.org/users/gedit/stable/gedit-plugins-terminal.html.en

This setup has been working nicely for me - and the terminal is handy when
working on projects built with Jekyll ( http://jekyllrb.com/ )

Cheers,
Al
