Take a look at www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html The scite editor was put together to demo Scintilla and they've dne a great job creating an editor that will work with all sorts of languages. For those of you stuck using a Windoze system at times, you can still work on Linux work as scite will run in both environments (and will even use the appropriate end of line characters). If you're running a language that scite doesn't yet handle (there aren't many) you can follow their directions to make your own syntax highlighting and other features needed by your language of choice.
