I use pfsense personally for firewall/proxy filter. Based on freeBSD and has lots of packages to add on like freeRADIUS, Squid Proxy, CARP multi WAN, openvpn. I know for a fact that some ISP/data centers use it. I put the embedded version on a 20/40 Gig SSD and have run it for years no hiccups. Might be worth a look if shopping around just check freeBSD NIC list.
