You mean the sixteenth byte, normally represented as eg <1b> ? (I can't think for the
life of me what you call it now...!)
Yes, it does it without that. Of course it's crucial now with Windows 2000, where WINS
is effectively obsolete.
I was somewhat surprised when I first heard it, but my greatest surprise was that
you'd bother using WINS if you could do that with DNS :-)
