This is all true, but if I recall his original message correctly, it was
complaining about DNS troubel *accessing the proxy*, and then when on to
complain about what looked like a reall access when it fell back to
non-proxy mode. It looks more like a local DNS problem than a problem
with the proxy. He can always try some simpler tests, such as MPing using
a hostname.
