Hi folks!
I'm currently thinking about having ADSL internet connection on Amiga.
I could easily get T-DSL here in Germany, but would it work with Amiga?
As far as now I found out (I think so) I would have to upgrade from Miami
to MiamiDx to get PPPoE support which German Telekom uses for its ADSL.
I found nothing so far about possible drowbacks and/or incompatibilities
regarding software support. Or are there some?
On the other hand I would of course need an Ethernet board. I understand
I should at best get either X-Surf or Ariadne II, for both of them support
full duplex (what the hell is this anyway?) on 10-Base-T connection, and
10-Base-T is necessary for connecting to T-DSL. Is this basically correct?
Is there something else I should consider?
Last but not the least I'm wondering if this all would realy suffice for
the promised bandwidh (768 kbit/s down & 128kbit/s up) or is the ethernet
board going to be the bottleneck limiting the overall download speed?
Is anybody out there who already has a working ADSL connection using
PPPoE (preferably from German Telekom) who can confirm the whole thing
works and maybe tell how good it really is? For it wouldn't be very
clever of me to order T-DSL first and find out it won't work for whatever
the reason may be afterwards, won't it?
Thanx in advance.
Alan
