Full duplex means that data can be transferred in both directions
simultaneously over the same cable.  However:

1) It doesn't work with hubs (as opposed to switches).

2) It works in principle with switches, but the inexpensive switches only
enable it by autonegotiation, which typically doesn't exist on 10Mb-only
NICs.

3) No cable or DSL modem I've seen supports full duplex.

Thus, the only cases where you really get to use full duplex with an Amiga
are on a direct computer-to-computer connection or with a fancy switch
that lets you configure the duplex mode.  The rest of the time, it should
be disabled, which is the default.

Hardware-wise, that's it.

10BaseT Ethernet is 10Mb/s, which is more than 10x the combined
upstream/downstream bandwidth you mention.  Even a full T1 (1.544Mb each
way) would only use about 30% of a 10Mb/s half-duplex Ethernet.  That's
probably why the cable/DSL modems don't even bother with a full-duplex
option.

If you want to hook a T3 to your Amiga, you might have trouble keeping up,
though. :-)
