Kelly puts the value at about 1,000 for a private sale with 153k and Excellent condition which would be highly doubtful
Edmunds puts the value at 14 dollars for the stereo and nothing for the car with 153000 miles!!! I think I would try to negotiate the price a little more than your thinking of paying. Carfax anyone??? No, I already did a "Buy It Now" for top price <G>. I would say that car, @ 153K miles, would be worth somewhere between $2K-$3K based on mileage. I don't know if they were trying to scam anyone (probably!) but the car has a 5 digit odo so I would say that actual mileage was probably exactly 100K higher than what was listed. I am meeting the guy tomorrow to take a look at the car. He seems ok with $3K so I will probably offer $2500 when we see that car. Sometimes waving $2500 cash in someones face helps speed up a deal. The bottom line is that I would have no problem with the car at $2500-3000. There are a few issues that I now have to deal with (timing belt, shit falling off when you drive it, etc) that I wouldn't have with a 53K mile car but I can probably live with it for getting that car $1500-$2000 cheaper than what I was going to pay. I was going to pull the engine anyway to put the gas saving camshaft in so a timing belt and a few other things should be no problem.
