well, 162 is too hot.? The charging voltage is not the problem.??If you unhook
the battery and let is sit for an hour (to remove the surface charge) what is
the battery voltage then?? A 12 volt rated battery is it's nominal charge.?
Fully charged it is around 12.8 volts and fully discharges it is around 11.2
volts. Anything less than about 10.5 volts and you have a dead cell or a short
between cells (there are six?2 volt cells in most lead acid batteries).???

How does that compare with the spare tire?

How hot is hot to you??

Battery is in the trunk with no ventilation and your charging it so yea it's
going to be hot.

14.4 volts shouldn't be a problem charging.

I believe 14.4 is fine. ?The gell cells take a little more voltage than lead
acid so 14.4 is spec. Shouldn't be a problem.
Lastest and not so greatest.........my alternator seems to be over charging. I
have made it 650 miles into an 800 mile leg. I am going to sit for a bit to let
it cool off. The battery is an Optima Red Top.
