No worries man! I take it then that the RedTop was older than 3yrs? You don't need a receipt to prove the age of the battery, there's a stamp on the battery casing itself that tells the Optima Rep the build month&year.
Good news tho, the new Yellow Tops now come with a 3yr free replacement warranty as opposed to the 1yr when purchased prior to 1st Jan 2009. Your YellowTop's stamp on the battery casing might have a build date before Jan\2009, so keep the receipt handy to prove you Purchased it after January 1st 2009. RedTops have always carried a 3yr replacement warranty, incase you were wondering. Happy Motoring!! :-) ________________________________ From: Eric McCord [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: July 22, 2009 11:41 AM To: Kandasamy, Thuwaragan Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: Hot battery 14.4 volts on gauge Thanks Thuwa.... I got it replaced @ autozone but my warranty only bought me $45 toward the replacement. I got the Yellow Top as a replacement. Easier to change a battery on the road as opposed to a tranny. It just kept getting hotter and hotter the longer you drive ... and then it started developing a sulphuric smell, at first I could've sworn my catalytic converter had died, but then for whatever reason when I went to open my trunk I noticed the smell was coming from there, and the battery was making a fizzing sound. I immediately unhooked the battery and pulled it out. Called Optima the next business day and they had me do a couple of tests, as soon as the battery started fizzing and heating up again, they said "yup, its no good" ... luckily it was within the 3yrs, so I got a free replacement, but this time I paid the extra $10 and upgraded to a Yellow Top that fit much better into my '02, and now I know if the YellowTop deep cycles on me, it can handle it! The gell cells take a little more voltage than lead acid so 14.4 is spec. Shouldn't be a problem. Lastest and not so greatest.........my alternator seems to be over charging. I have made it 650 miles into an 800 mile leg. I am going to sit for a bit to let it cool off. The battery is an Optima Red Top. What's for dinner tonight?
