if it were that easy , dont you think that tip would have become law in the miata community long ago?  but I d hope it is anyway, so that you have your cheap torsen and I can find one myself. !  :)

Bryan,

According to the differential spotters guide you are correct. At least I hope so, I just bought a TORSEN I didn’t need because the price was too good to pass up….  Well, I assumed it was TORSEN because it had the damper. I’ll have to verify it later.

Dumb question, but don't all Torsens have the rubber damper where the driveshaft and the input to the diff meet?

thanks fir the replies guys.  obviously it's been while  since I looked at that car.  when I did not get my replies (list problem for me, working on it) I called mazda usa.  car does NOT have the torsen, or, I should say, was not delivered new with one.

so that also tells me that Mazda USA is still available to ask the question. The guy said it was no problem and in fact they like these kinds of calls. Presumably, gain brand loyalty in the market?

I'm still looking for a Red 84-07 with zero rust. Torsen optional, based on the price. I can get a Torsen for 800 or so.

I had a '94A and remember checking equipment options here.  If the car came with cloth seats it probably didn't have a torsen.  If it did come with leather seats it probably came with torsen ... and the most underbody bracing of any year Miata.  The seats may have been replaced so look for the bracing (half a dozen round steel bars with flatened ends) under the rear of the body.  AFAIK the '94B (tan top & interior) did not have the bracing.
