+1 on wires. Last year while driving to work on day my '96 went from running great to barely running over to course of 10 minutes. I bought some plugs and wires, borrowed some tools and the car was back to running great in short order.

Have you leaked for vacuum leaks, especially the big, but somewhat hidden vac cap at the back of the intake manifold, near the firewall?

First thing I did was check the plugs.  They are clean.
The cam cover gasket is a little leaky, but only on the outside.
