MS can, it will require significant amount of tuning. It also depends on
which MS Frank has. One of the older ones adapted for an NB use, or a new
ones made specifically for the NB. The MS can usually do the job. Just needs
lots of time.

There could be a IAC problem, it is always possible. Cleaning it certainly
would not hurt, but the problems he describe sounds more like typical
standalone ECU stuff. They crank slightly longer. Idle varies and requires
more tuning - especially from one season to another. The only MS that we
have had idle issues with are 1.6L and a/c control. The new NB MegaSquirt
can run the OEM alternator with no problems, and idle like a dream. They are
much better pieces for the NB configuration.

There are very few options that will give the desired drivability and still
make good power. The Xede is probably the easiest, but it too will crank a
second longer than stock. Though not as long as a standalone ECU. Since
there is a return line, the FMU and external pump can be added easily. But I
would not run it over 6 psi with that configuration and no timing control.
(as much as it pains me to suggest it) Have you looked at the Power Card
timing thing? I know it exists, but have no idea at its capabilities. Just
remember, anything, that interrupts the crank signal will crank slightly
longer on start up.

Why can't the MS do it? OEM just adjusts IAC for all that, right? He
may just need to check his IAC. If he is running a K&N style filter
he may have just gummed up his IAC. If that is the case it will run
bad with the OEM ECU, too.
